Growing wildfires, historic droughts, continued population growth and decreasing biodiversity are issues that continue to challenge Arizona. Two decades ago, Arizona emerged as a national leader in developing strategies to combat these issues: The Northern Arizona Forest Fund and Pollinator Habitat Initiative, The Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan, and the Arizona Water Initiative are a few examples. Geospatial technologies are now a hub for natural resource inquiries and management. Remote sensing and geographic information systems provide valuable insight for making data driven decisions relating to sustainable development and the preservation of natural resources.
The Arizona Geographic Information Council (AGIC) Natural Resource Workgroup invites you to join us for a virtual afternoon presentation series highlighting geospatial and remoting sensing activities across Arizona. The December meeting will focus on Southern Arizona, highlighting the work of the UA Remote Sensing Center, Wild Cat Conservation, and the use of UAV for population and canopy height models in commercial agriculture. Kyle Hartfield and Patrick Broxton will be presenting on UA Remote Sensing Center's DroughtView and SnowView applications, satellite based water monitoring and assessment tools, Ashwin Naidu will be discussing GIS for wild cat conservation, and Nick Bisley will present on the use of UAV imagery for population and canopy height estimates.
