2021 ArcGIS Online Student Competition Winners Announced

This year, Arizona submitted five projects to the Esri sponsored ArcGIS Online Student Competition.  The state winner was announced yesterday.  Congratulations to Maya Settles for her storymap about Covid-19 in the Navajo Nation!  Maya’s project discusses the early spread of COVID-19 throughout the Navajo Nation, where they had some of the highest infection rates per capita for a time.  Her project even discusses some of the causes for the high numbers.

The other competition submissions were no less impressive.  They included:

All submissions to the competition came from ninth graders at Corona Del Sol High School and were sponsored by teacher Dawn Schmidt.  Dawn also sponsored all the students, including the state winner, at last year’s competition.  Thank you Dawn for supporting and encouraging your students during this competition.

Check back to the competition results website for news of an upcoming webinar, scheduled for June 17, 2021 at 5:00 PM (Pacific Daylight Time), where state winners will be interviewed.

While this competition is closed for this year, Esri is planning to hold the competition again next year.  Make sure to check the AGIC website for news about the 2022 competition, including deadlines and rules.
