GISCorps Volunteers Bring GIS to Communities in Need Worldwide

Maybe you’re just getting started in the GIS field and are looking for ways to further practice and improve your skills or maybe you have been working in the GIS field for years and would like to volunteer your skills to further humanitarian efforts or assist with emergency efforts within communities in need.  Whatever your skill level or interest, GISCorps has volunteer opportunities available.

Operating under the auspices of URISA, GISCorps matches qualified volunteers with organizations worldwide to provide short-term GIS services where they are needed most.  Project types run the gamut from teaching GIS in developing countries to developing web mapping applications for nonprofits to geolocating photos of damage following a natural disaster. Some projects involve travel to the partner organization’s location, while many others can be completed remotely.  Please note that anyone with GIS skills may join; there is no minimum level of education or experience required.

If you wish to learn more about GISCorps and the current projects they are working on, check out their GIS for Good Hub.  If you wish to learn more about how to become a volunteer, check out the GISCorps Become a Volunteer webpage.
