Tree Equity to Protect Vulnerable Communities

Trees help provide shade, which is invaluable in hot cities like Phoenix.  However, studies have found the hottest parts of Maricopa County, which have the fewest trees, are directly correlated to the places with the highest concentration of people of color, people in poverty, and unemployment.  Tree equity is "about identifying some of the hottest areas, some areas most at risk, where tree canopy can have the greatest benefits."
