Prioritization and conservation of water resources and drought mitigation are efforts scientists and land managers throughout the Southwest have been actively engaged in for the past 20 years.  Geographical information systems and remote sensing techniques have been used to determine land use, soil erosion levels and aid water preservation measures.  These results can guide practical management efforts in the field.  The AGIC Natural Resource Workgroup is pleased to virtually host three speakers whose work is dedicated to water conservation and drought mitigation:

  • Karen Fisher, Central Arizona Project: Using remote sensing tools to determine land use and water consumption
  • Mary Nichols, USDA-ARS Southwest Watershed Research Center: Rangeland soil and water conservation berms in the Altar Valley, and
  • Jatta Sheehy, TerraSystems Southwest: Property Scale Hydrologic Remediation in Baja California Sur: Spatial and Soil Analysis.
