Event Description:

OpenStreetMap can be described as the Wikipedia of maps. The data is used for everything from Pokemon Go to everyday navigation and use by organizations like the National Park Service official maps and even Bing Maps.

This virtual meetup will provide a quick overview of OSM and how to very quickly import in missing building traces and National Address Database address info using RapiD in a browser as well as how to easily map in the field. The primary goal of this map-a-thon is to continue to fill out the Maricopa County buildings and addresses, but folk are free to edit whatever and wherever they're most interested in.

More about OpenStreetMap and to create an account before the meetup to edit with: http://www.openstreetmap.org

Have questions about OpenStreetMap? Contact Scott or join the OSM US Slack server where there are plenty of friendly mapping folk that'd be happy to help you learn to contribute: https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/List_of_OSM_centric_Slack_workspaces
There is also the recently created forums: https://community.openstreetmap.org/

We'll be using Jitsi, an open source and privacy respecting Zoom-like for this virtual meetup: https://meet.jit.si/PHXGeo2022Q4Mapathon

Feel free to suggest your ideas to help make this reoccurring event more of something you and others want to go to.
