It’s difficult enough to explain to an adult layperson what the field of Geographic Information Systems is; knowing where to start explaining GIS to kids can be even harder. That said, GIS is a fascinating field that can be both educational and enjoyable for kids.

Remote sensing technology, utilized by satellites and airborne sensors, captures images of the Earth in multiple wavelengths of light. Using remote sensing of satellite imagery, scientists and researchers identify and classify materials on the Earth’s surface or in the atmosphere by analyzing how these materials interact with light.
