The USDA Southwestern Regional Forester's Awards is a way for the USDA to highlight inspired work done by their employees.  The 2018 award winners were recently announced and a familiar name was amongst the list.  Mark Christiano, an AGIC Council member and co-chair of the LiDAR workgroup, won the award for Innovation In Technology for his work on organizing the AGIC LiDAR Workgroup, which promotes LiDAR efforts in Arizona, including information exchange through education and outreach.  Congratulations Mark on this well-deserved award!

Location reporting remains two-dimensional. We correlate left and right, forward and back, or east and west, north and south—especially when dealing with maps. While this logic has worked in the past, the lack of a Z indicator for altitude creates an additional problem. How do dispatchers accurately direct fire or police when the cell phone caller is in a high-rise building? Because AGIC is very involved with 9-1-1 and is working on standards and national initiatives related to NG911, this article is posted as AGIC news.

Cochise County Open Geospatial Data Policy
